Description
Number of enterprises registered on the Ministry of MSME's Udyam portal in each of India's 36 states and union territories, by size class (micro, small, medium), the total Udyam registrations, the informal micro enterprises registered through the Udyam Assist Platform (UAP), and the all-in total of MSMEs, with the all-India row. It is a cumulative count at the capture date (30 October 2026), not a count of enterprises opened in a year. Kerala has 1,280,577 Udyam registrations (1,265,818 micro, 13,892 small, 867 medium) and 1,091,773 UAP units, 2,372,350 MSMEs in all; it ranks 16th of 36 states and UTs on Udyam registrations, with 2.3% of the 55.3 million registered in India. Use it to compare how many registered MSMEs each state has; it is not an employment count and has no district or sector detail.
Methodology
1. PRI saved the Ministry of MSME Dashboard page "State Wise Udyam Registration" (https://dashboard.msme.gov.in/Udyam_Statewise.aspx), a plain HTML table, on 30 October 2026. No login or captcha is involved.
2. The table headings were checked against the expected columns and every figure was read as a whole number (the all-India row prints Indian digit grouping, 5,47,55,668).
3. State names were coded with LGD state codes using PRI's state crosswalk (reference/geo_states.csv); the printed all-India total is kept as the India row (code IN).
4. The table was reshaped to one row per state and measure. Each row was checked: micro + small + medium equals the Udyam total, Udyam total + UAP equals total MSMEs, and the printed all-India row equals the sum of the states; none of the 222 rows was flagged.
Known limitations
A snapshot of a live dashboard that carries no 'as on' date, so the capture date is the only date; the figures are cumulative registrations and rise over time. State level only: neither the dashboard nor udyamregistration.gov.in publishes district or sector counts. Registrations are counted where the enterprise registered, not by number of workers, and an enterprise that closed may stay registered. UAP units are informal micro enterprises without a GST or PAN-based Udyam certificate, so they are shown separately from the Udyam total. The publisher's footer notes that its machine translation may contain errors; the English table is used. The archived copy is from 18 June 2026 (the Internet Archive could not save a newer one on 30 October 2026), so it shows lower counts than this dataset, for example 1,167,111 Udyam registrations for Kerala against 1,280,577 here; the capture date, not the archive, dates these figures.
