Share of each state and union territory in India's inward remittances, in percent, as estimated by the Reserve Bank of India from its survey of banks for 2016-17, 2020-21 and 2023-24. The figures come from Table 2 of the RBI Bulletin article on the sixth survey round (March 2025), which reprints the two earlier rounds beside the new one. Kerala received 19.0 percent of India's remittances in 2016-17, 10.2 percent in 2020-21, when Gulf migrants returned during the pandemic, and 19.7 percent in 2023-24, second only to Maharashtra (20.5 percent; 35.2 percent in 2020-21). The 2023-24 round lists all 36 states and union territories; the earlier rounds name only the larger receiving states. The table has one row per state and round, with the state name as printed beside its LGD code. It can be used to compare how much of the country's remittance inflow reaches Kerala and other migrant-sending states, and how that changed after COVID-19.
