How the land of each of Kerala's 14 districts is used, in hectares, as printed in the Department of Economics and Statistics' yearly Agricultural Statistics (Table 2). Each district's geographical area is split into land-use classes that add up to it: forest, land put to non-agricultural use, barren and uncultivable land, permanent pastures, land under miscellaneous tree crops, cultivable waste, fallow other than current fallow, current fallow, social forestry, water logged area, still water, marshy land and net area sown. Two more figures give the area sown more than once and the total cropped area. The 2023-24 edition also prints the Kerala total (3,886,287 ha of geographical area). Use it to compare how much land each district keeps under forest, cultivation or fallow, or to follow net area sown across the two editions. The figures come from the department's land utilisation survey of revenue land, so cultivation inside forest land is not counted.
