Size of the Kudumbashree community network, the Kerala women's self-help structure of neighbourhood groups (NHGs) federated into Area Development Societies (ADS) at ward level and Community Development Societies (CDS) at local body level. For each district it gives the number of ADS and of active NHGs in rural and urban areas; for the State it adds the number of CDS, NHG members, elderly, disability and transgender NHGs and their members, and auxiliary groups. Figures are counts as on 25 May 2026: 317,724 NHGs with 48.1 lakh members, 21,045 ADS and 1,071 CDS. Malappuram (34,237) and Thiruvananthapuram (32,277) have the most active NHGs, Wayanad (10,600) and Pathanamthitta (10,677) the fewest. Use it to compare the reach of Kudumbashree across districts.
1. PRI downloaded the "Data on Kudumbashree" page of kudumbashree.org on 29 October 2026. 2. From its IBCB-Organisation tab, the State summary of community based organisations and the district tables of ADS and active NHGs were read; tables were found by caption and rows by printed label. 3. District names were mapped to LGD codes. Total rows of the district tables that repeat the State summary were kept once; they were checked to be equal. 4. Each State row was compared with the sum of the districts. The published urban NHG total differs and is flagged (see known limitations). Source documents: 1. District level only: no public figures by local body (CDS) were found. NHG members and the elderly, disability and transgender NHGs are published for the State only. The published State total of urban NHGs (59,966) is not the sum of the districts (60,097, which also equals total minus rural NHGs); it is kept as published and flagged in qa_flag. The page carries no history: each capture is a snapshot of the date shown on the page.
