Dataset · Education
Percentage of rural children in each grade from Std I to Std VIII in Kerala by the highest arithmetic level they reached in the one-to-one ASER test: beginner (cannot recognise numbers 1-9), recognise numbers 1-9, recognise numbers 10-99, do subtraction, or do division, from the arithmetic table of the Kerala state report card of the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) for the national rounds 2007-2014, 2016, 2018, 2022 and 2024. Each row is one survey year, grade and level; the levels of a grade are exclusive and add up to 100. The share of Std V children who could do division fell from 44.3% in 2007 to 21.3% in 2024, and in Std VIII from 72.8% to 38.2%. Use it to track foundational arithmetic in rural Kerala over time.
